Expert Vet Services
GENERAL VETERINARY CARE SERVICES

Our healthcare team can assist you with education, advice and care to ensure your pet has the happiest and healthiest life possible. We provide a full range of medical facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of dogs and cats as well as other small pets. In order to keep informed on current therapies and procedures our veterinary and nursing team regularly attend relevant seminars and education programs.

SURGERY
As with human surgery, our veterinarian scrub up, wears surgical gowns and safety protection as well as using autoclaved instruments throughout the procedure. The surgical bed is heated for the comfort and wellness of our patients who are continually monitored. A fully trained veterinary technician assists the veterinarian throughout the procedure. Our hospital is equipped to perform most types of surgery with modern anaesthetic machines, respiratory monitors and more. Our surgical area is completely sterile and we use the safest and modern anaesthetics very similar to an operating theatre in a human hospital. Dr. Sergiy Dariy performs a vast range of operations such as desexing, exploratory surgery, caesareans, tumour and lump removals, wound stitches, intestinal obstructions, radio surgeries and more.

SPAY AND NEUTER
Surgical desexing or sterilisation involves removal of part of the reproductive system of pets whilst under a general anaesthetic. Find out more about desexing in our pet library.

DENTISTRY
When your four-legged furry friend lunges for a big hug, does the smell of their breath knock you flat on your back? If this is true it’s time for a dental checkup. A dental check up may highlight the need for cleaning, polishing, tooth extraction or even just a change in diet. Remember, your pet will look and function better and also live longer with healthy teeth and gums. It’s true that a high percentage of ageing pets suffer from some degree of periodontal disease. This is a condition in which bacteria attack the gum tissue causing a foul odour, yellowish brown crusts of tartar around the gum line and even pain and bleeding when your pet eats or you touch its gums.

ECG TRACING
The ECG (electrocardiograph) machine is used to obtain a tracing which tells us how a patient’s heart is performing. A series of leads are attached to the limbs and the machine maps out the trace. We compare the animal’s trace to normal and can tell from this if there is heart enlargement, irregular heart beats and so on. Like an ultrasound, it is done with the patient wide awake and with minimal stress.

PATHOLOGY SERVICES
We are able to perform various pathology tests such as blood tests within the hospital, thus giving faster diagnosis and treatment. For more detailed testing we engage the services of a specialist laboratory.

DIGITAL RADIOLOGY
Our Digital Radiology allows us to investigate animal injuries and health problems. Having the equipment on hand means we are able to quickly diagnose injuries particularly in emergency situations. This is convenient for you as your pet can have all treatment done at the hospital and also means our patients are given the best opportunity for recovery.
We are proud to provide all these services to  our clients from Richmond Hill, Markham, Newmarket, Thornhill, Vaughan, Maple, Aurora, North York and Toronto area.

Puppy and kitten wellness
There is nothing more exciting than bringing a new puppy or kitten into your family! At Weldrick Animal Hospital, we want to ensure that your new family member is as healthy as possible, and make your visit with your new puppy or kitten a positive experience. Here are some important things you should know if you have a new puppy or kitten, or are looking to bring one into your family in the future.

First Check-up
When you get your new puppy or kitten, you should make an appointment with our veterinarian as soon as possible. Some things to remember to bring to your appointment are any medical records you may have, as well as any vaccination record, if your pet received vaccines prior to going home with you. During your first visit, you can expect that your pet will receive a thorough physical examination, from nose to tail. At this time, if you have any questions regarding your new pet, we would be more than happy to answer them. We will also develop a vaccination schedule according to the needs of your pet.
Vaccinations
Puppies and kittens are not born with their own immunity to diseases, and require vaccinations at specific intervals in order for their immune system to be able to create antibodies to the diseases they prevent.
Puppies receive their first vaccination at 6 weeks of age. This combination vaccine covers Distemper, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, and Hepatitis. This vaccine will require boosters every 3 weeks until 18 weeks of age, along with Rabies vaccination at 3 month. Additional vaccinations may be recommended, according to your pet’s lifestyle.
Kittens receive their first vaccination at 8 weeks of age. This combination vaccine covers Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (a viral upper respiratory infection), Calicivirus, Panleukopenia, as well as Chlamydia psittaci (bacterial conjunctivitis). This vaccine will require boosters every 3 weeks until 18 weeks of age, along with Rabies vaccination at 3 month. Depending on your cat’s lifestyle, the doctor may recommend the Feline Leukemia vaccination.
Spaying & Neutering
Typically, your pet will be spayed or neutered starting at 6 months of age. This is recommended because it prevents unwanted pregnancy, uterine infections and breast tumours in females, as well as behavioural changes. For males, it prevents unwanted marking, behaviours such as roaming and aggression, and increases concentration and focus.
Microchipping
Microchipping is a permanent form of identification for your pet. Inserting a microchip is like a vaccination, it only takes a few seconds. The procedure is very safe and your pet will feel little pain. Once done, your pet’s details, and your contact address & phone numbers are entered on a national database.
Your cost is only 29$ for the life time to protect your beloved pet.
It is available for all our clients from Richmond Hill, Markham, Newmarket, Thornhill, Vaughan, Maple, Aurora, North York and Toronto area.

Why do we recommend microchipping?

Collars can fall off or be removed & details on pet tags can fade or become outdated. Inserting a microchip means your pet can be easily identified by a ranger, animal shelter or veterinarian regardless of the situation. Once identified, you can be contacted immediately and informed of the location of your pet. If your pet has been stolen and then later recovered, ownership of your pet can be challenged. Microchipping is the only way you can prove ownership of your pet (and yes this does happen).

What happens if your pet strays?

If your pet is ever lost, animal shelter or veterinarian anywhere in Canada can scan your pet for a microchip and access your contact details. The only way that you may not become reunited with your lost pet is if you don’t contact the register when you have changed your address or contact phone numbers.

Who to contact if you change address?

If you change address or telephone number, it is your responsibility to contact a national registry and update your contact details. If you are not sure who your pet is registered with, you can find out through Canadian Microchipping
If your pet was implanted with a microchip by our practice, you should contact the EIDAP Animal Registry at 1- 888-346-8899.
You can also visit their website on Microchip Registration

How do you have your pet microchipped?

We can insert a Microchip during a normal veterinary consultation. Please contact us for an appointment or for more information.
